The designer Christoph Malig and his brand Paul v. Alpen *1886 unites an experience of more than 20 years as a pattern stylist in the garment industry with his passion for unusual shirts. “It is important for me to resolve the conformity in fashion without questioning the reliability”.
The history behind the name:
Paul v. Alpen *1886 combines modern, high-quality men’s shirts with a family business tradition that stretches back to the beginning of the 19th century. The name comes from the grandfather Paul von Alpen, born 1886 in Aachen. His father, Ullrich von Alpen, was a textiles manufacturer in the Aachen region of Germany in the 19th century. The family name can be traced to the town of Alpen on the Lower Rhine. Alpen was first documented in 1074 and gained town rights in 1354. The town is presumably much older and belonged to the estate of the Archbishop of Cologne as far back as the 7th century CE. From 1330 to 1422 it belonged to the reeves of Cologne, who also adopted the von Alpen name.
